What is a shared server?
A shared server is where more than one client shares the resources, bandwidth, and disc space of the same server.

How many people are on a shared server?
At TVI that entirely depends on the types of plans. There will be more people on a server if they all have the smaller plans and less people on a server if they have larger plans. Here at TVI we do not "oversell" our servers and simply pack on a server as many clients as we can. Our average server loads are under 25% of capacity.

What is overselling?
Overselling is the questionable practice of re-selling transfer that clients have already paid for.
Here is an example;
A host may have a server that is allocated 500 gigs of transfer. Now the host may be able to go over the 500 gigs with what is called a "burst" amount and pay additional fees to the datacenter. In our example the host sells 50 people accounts that are allocated 10 gigs of transfer each. That is the point where the total of the accounts on the server equal the server's transfer allottment.
A Host that oversells will then look to see if those 50 people are using all of the transfer they paid for. If they are not, the Host will then add more people to the server until the actual transfer being used is closer to the server's allottment of 500 gigs, however the server in the vast majority of cases cannot possibly provide the resources for all the clients to utilize all the bandwidth they purchased.
This is what is commonly known as "overselling".
At TVI we do not believe we should sell the transfer you paid for to someone else. We also believe that overselling a server can cause higher server loads and increased Support issues as well as many other problems.
We do not oversell our servers at TVI even though it is a widely accepted and largely undisclosed tactic.

What is unlimited bandwidth?
Unlimited bandwidth is a claim you may see from time to time. It is not possible to provide unlimited bandwidth or disc space as there are limitations to both. Many times accounts that include unlimited bandwidth are on servers that are massively oversold, resulting in slow loading web sites and server crashes. Any Company claiming they can provide a web hosting service without limits is not making a truthful claim. See also the question concerning Overselling.

What is a Control Panel, and does TVI provide one?
This is a web based interface that has been simplified to a series of links which allow people with minimum knowledge to be able to run their own web sites.
At TVI we provide CPanel. We feel that this is the most feature rich and user friendly interface available at this time.
